Black Gum

Nyssa sylvatica 'Sheri's Cloud'

This is a beautiful native variegated black gum tree!  Found in Arkansas around 10 years ago, this plant is slowly finding its way into the market.  It has fantastic fall color, just like the native black gum tree.  Named after the founder of the plant's wife, and mentioned that it would resemble a cloud in the landscape!

  1. Any nurseries you know of that might have this variety? Is it what you would call a sport of the original variety?

  2. It was actually found in a roadside ditch in Arkansas, as a black gum seedling. The person who found it noticed something different and marked the spot in his mind and went back and found something pretty cool. I purchased mine at a plant auction, but I have seen it listed on a few plant websites. I'll ask around locally in West TN and we'll see what we can find!
